CeeDee Lamb has taken over the NFL's receiving-yardage lead after producing one of the most remarkable performances of the 2026 season in Week 4.
The Dallas Cowboys wide receiver caught a career-high 17 passes for 189 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 34-30 comeback victory over the Houston Texans. His performance pushed his season totals to 37 receptions for 498 yards and four receiving touchdowns through four games, placing him first in the league in receiving yardage. NFL's current statistics list Lamb ahead of Chris Olave and Jaxon Smith-Njigba at the top of the receiving leaderboard.
Lamb's performance was especially impressive because most of his production came after halftime. He entered the second half with six catches for 49 yards, then erupted for another 11 receptions, 140 yards and the game-winning touchdown. NFL's Week 4 review confirmed that Lamb became the central figure in Dallas' second-half offensive turnaround.
The Cowboys trailed Houston 16-6 at halftime, but the offense came alive after the break. Dallas scored on four of its five second-half drives, while Lamb repeatedly found openings against the Texans' secondary. His 17 receptions and 189 receiving yards gave the Cowboys the production they needed to overcome the deficit.
Lamb's biggest play came when the game was on the line. Houston had taken a 30-27 lead late in the fourth quarter, leaving Dallas with one final opportunity to respond. The Cowboys drove 74 yards, and Dak Prescott eventually connected with Lamb for a 12-yard touchdown with 40 seconds remaining. That reception gave Dallas the lead and completed the comeback.
The victory moved Dallas to 2-2 on the season, while Houston fell to 0-4. Prescott completed 32 of 45 passes for 335 yards and a touchdown, while running back Javonte Williams scored three rushing touchdowns in the second half.
Lamb's 17-catch performance also placed him in a rare group in NFL history. NFL Research reported that he became only the fourth player ever to record at least 17 receptions, 180 receiving yards and a receiving touchdown in the same game. The other players to reach those marks are Hall of Famers Tom Fears and Terrell Owens, along with Brandon Marshall.
The performance was also significant in Cowboys history. Lamb's 17 receptions are the most by a Cowboys wide receiver in a single game. Only Jason Witten has caught more passes in a single game for Dallas, recording 18 receptions in 2012. That distinction makes Lamb's performance particularly notable without incorrectly labeling it as the franchise's overall single-game reception record.
Lamb's production through four games has been consistently strong. He opened the season with five receptions for 44 yards and one touchdown against the New York Giants. He followed that with eight catches for 153 yards and two touchdowns against the Washington Commanders in Week 2. In Week 3, he recorded seven receptions for 112 yards against the Baltimore Ravens. His Week 4 performance against Houston then pushed his season total to 498 yards.
That total represents another important accomplishment. NFL reported that Lamb's 498 receiving yards are the most by a Cowboys player through the first four games of a season in franchise history. His fast start has therefore produced both a league-leading statistic and a new mark for Dallas.
Lamb's season statistics also show how heavily involved he has been in the Dallas offense. Through four games, he has 37 receptions on 46 targets, averaging 13.5 yards per reception. His four receiving touchdowns are also part of a balanced start that has made him one of the league's most productive offensive players.
His Week 4 workload was particularly notable. Prescott targeted Lamb 21 times, and NFL's Next Gen Stats noted that Lamb received those targets while running 45 routes. That was the most targets by any receiver who ran 45 or fewer routes in a game during the Next Gen Stats era, which dates to 2016.
The Houston game also carried personal significance for Lamb. The matchup was played in his hometown, and he had purchased 18 tickets for friends and family to attend. His return to Houston ultimately became an unforgettable performance, capped by the game-winning touchdown.
Lamb also reached another career milestone during the victory, passing Drew Pearson for fourth place on the Cowboys' all-time receiving-yards list. NFL's career statistics list Lamb with 7,914 career receiving yards after four games of the 2026 season.
While the 2026 season remains in its early stages, Lamb has already established himself as the NFL's current receiving-yardage leader. His 498 yards put him seven yards ahead of Olave's 491 and 17 ahead of Smith-Njigba's 481 in the current league statistics.
The receiving race will undoubtedly change as the season continues, but Lamb has given himself an impressive early advantage. His combination of volume, yardage and touchdowns has made him a consistent focal point of Dallas' passing attack.
More importantly, his production is translating into meaningful moments for the Cowboys. Against Houston, Lamb did not simply accumulate statistics. He produced when Dallas needed him most, catching the decisive touchdown with 40 seconds left and helping the Cowboys erase a 10-point halftime deficit.
After four games, Lamb sits at the top of the NFL receiving-yardage standings with 498 yards. He has also established a new Cowboys benchmark for receiving yards through four games and joined an exclusive group of players with a 17-catch, 180-yard, touchdown performance.
