The Pirates scored early and held onto a lead to beat the Tigers 4-2 in the last game of the season for both teams.

Konnor Griffin homered and singled, knocking in two runs to lead the Pittsburgh Pirates (82-80) to a season ending 4-2 win over the Detroit Tigers (76-86).

Griffin hit the second pitch of the game for a solo home run to give the Pirates the lead.

The Pirates added another run in the second inning. Spencer Horwitz walked and Nick Gonzales singled and both advanced on a wild pitch from Tiger starter River Ryan. Jake Mangum then singled to score Horwitz and give the Pirates a 2-0 lead.

Ryan, the starting pitcher for the Tigers, struggled with throwing strikes. He threw 39 pitches, 21 strikes and 18 balls in just 1.1 innings pitched, allowing two earned runs.

Gonzales singled to start the fourth inning and later scored on a double by Billy Cook. Griffin added his second RBI of the game hitting a single to score Cook and make it 4-0.

Jared Jones gave the Pirates a solid start. He worked 4 innings, allowed one hit, no runs, no walks, and struck out five.

The Tigers struggled all game offensively, only managing three hits. Two of them were solo home runs in the seventh inning. One from Kevin McGonigle, and one from Eduardo Valencia.

Mason Montgomery came in and pitched the ninth inning for the Pirates, earning the save and keeping the score a 4-2 final.
