Down 2-1, the Kraken took control in the second period and beat the Red Wings.

The Seattle Kraken came alive in the second period, scoring five straight goals between the last two periods that ended in a 6-3 win over the Detroit Red Wings.

The Red Wings started the scoring while on the power play at the 9:19 mark. Viktor Arvidsson scored his third goal of the season, tapping it in after the puck snuck through the body of Kraken goaltender Philipp Grubauer off of a shot from Lucas Raymond. Moritz Seider had the other assist.

The Kraken tied the game fairly quickly. Berkly Catton scored after taking a tip pass from Kaapo Kakko, who received a pass in the slot from Joshua Mahura at the 14:52 mark.

The first period was controlled everywhere but the scoreboard by the Red Wings. They outshot the Kraken 16-5 in the period, but the game was tied going into the first intermission.

William Wallinder gave the Red Wings back the lead when he scored his first career NHL goal four minutes into the middle period. He scored on a shot from the point, with assists from Alex DeBrincat and Michael Brandsegg-Nygård.

That’s when, despite the shot differential, the Kraken took the game over, capitalizing on every opportunity that got in their offensive zone.

Thirty-nine seconds later, Frederick Gaudreau tied the game 2-2 when he was left alone in front of the net and shot the puck high over Red Wings goalie John Gibson’s glove. Ryan Winterton and Ben Myers had the assists.

The Kraken took the lead at the 6:39 mark and would never look back, scoring three more goals in the period. Mackie Samoskevich scored, with a helper from Jared McCann. Gaudreau scored his second of the night on another high-glove shot, again from Winterton and Myers, and Myers scored the fourth straight to give the Kraken a 5-2 lead at the 14:05 mark.

Gibson would be pulled for backup Daniil Tarasov for the Red Wings.

Each team would score one goal in the third period.

Vince Dunn scored for the Kraken, with assists from Chandler Stephenson and Brandon Montour.

Michael Brandsegg-Nygård scored his first career goal as well, unassisted.

The Red Wings outshot the Kraken 40-24 in the game.
