The young guard moves to the rebranded Coachella Valley affiliate to secure playing time following the team's strong 7-2 start.
The Los Angeles Lakers have assigned Bronny James to their G League affiliate, the Coachella Valley Lakers, to help the young guard secure consistent playing time and accelerate his growth.
The move follows five games of limited action during the team's strong 7-2 start. The 22-year-old has averaged just 2.4 minutes and 0.8 points per contest for Los Angeles, which currently sits among the Western Conference leaders alongside the Portland Trail Blazers (6-1) and Houston Rockets (7-2).
James has previously thrived at the G League level. In 25 appearances over the past two seasons with South Bay, he averaged 18.4 points on 49.6% shooting (including 41.3% from deep), 4.4 assists, and 4.0 rebounds.
The affiliate’s transition to the Coachella Valley brings a total rebrand. Formerly known as the South Bay Lakers, the squad has relocated its home games to Acrisure Arena in Palm Desert rather than the parent team's practice facility in El Segundo.
Coachella Valley opens its season Friday against the Salt Lake City Stars under new head coach Alex Cerda. Cerda takes over for Zack Guthrie, who departed to join JJ Redick's staff in Los Angeles.
