Western Michigan, UMass and Toledo top the latest MAC football power rankings following Week 2

The 2026 college football campaign is in full swing and several MAC programs picked up impressive wins this weekend!

From dominant blowouts to overtime wins, check out the 2026 MAC football power rankings following Week 2.

1. Western Michigan Broncos (1-1, 0-0)

Western Michigan bounced back from a season-opening loss to No. 16 Michigan with a 49-14 win over Monmouth on Saturday.

The Broncos continue to look like the class of the conference behind quarterback Broc Lowry’s three touchdowns.

Next: at Rice (September 19 at 7:00 PM)

2. UMass Minutemen (2-0, 0-0)

UMass followed up a historic upset over Rutgers with a 37-10 win over Sacred Heart this week. The Minutemen weren’t expected to be MAC title contenders this season, but two weeks in, UMass looks like they can compete with any opponent.

Next: Stonehill (September 19 at 3:30 PM)

3. Toledo Rockets (1-1, 0-0)

Toledo routed Central Connecticut State with a 63-10 beatdown in the home opener as quarterback John Alan Richter posted a career-high 252 passing yards and three touchdowns. Now, we’ll see if the Rockets can keep the momentum going.

Next: Temple (September 19 at 3:00 PM)

4. Miami Ohio Redhawks (1-1, 0-0)

Miami Ohio jumped out to a 42-0 halftime lead and coasted to a 45-7 win over Holy Cross this week. Kansas transfer quarterback David McComb threw a perfect game — completing 13-for-13 attempts to go with 234 yards and three touchdowns.

Next: at Cincinnati (September 19 at 3:30 PM)

5. Ohio Bobcats (1-1, 0-0)

Ohio didn’t play up to its potential and just narrowly escaped with a 29-27 win over Jacksonville State in quadruple overtime.

Despite coming out with a win, the Bobcats struggled to move the ball with just 97 passing yards, which is a concern.

Next: at South Alabama (September 19 at 7:00 PM)

6. Buffalo Bulls (1-1, 0-0)

Buffalo had a chance to start the season with a 2-0 record, but came out flat and eventually lost 33-20 at Florida International.

Life doesn’t get any easier for the Bulls as they turn their attention to a daunting road trip to No. 14 Penn State.

Next: at No. 14 Penn State (September 19 at 12:00 PM)

7. Akron Zips (1-1, 0-0)

Akron got in the win column for the first time with a 45-10 blowout over Robert Morris as quarterback Cibastian Broughton continued his hot start to the season — going off for 227 passing yards and four touchdowns in the home debut.

Next: at Minnesota (September 19 at 12:00 PM)

8. Eastern Michigan Eagles (1-2, 1-0)

Eastern Michigan was hoping to upset Michigan State, but the Eagles didn’t have enough in a 35-7 loss as they were outscored 21-0 in the second half.

Now, Eastern Michigan has an even more difficult challenge as they travel to Wisconsin.

Next: at Wisconsin (September 19 at 12:30 PM)

9. Ball State Cardinals (1-1, 0-0)

Ball State returned home following a loss at No. 1 Ohio State in the season opener last week, and the Cardinals put together a dominant performance in a 41-17 win over Stony Brook — powered by running back TJ Horton’s 215 rushing yards.

Next: at Liberty (September 19 at 4:00 PM)

10. Sacramento State Hornets (1-2, 0-1)

Sacramento State held Fresno State scoreless in the first quarter and it appeared the Hornets might be able to keep it close, but the Bulldogs exploded for 32 points in the second quarter and defeated the newest MAC member 49-3 on Saturday.

Next: North Dakota State (September 19 at 10:30 PM)

11. Kent State Golden Flashes (1-1, 0-0)

Kent State got off to a slow start and trailed Wofford 15-14 heading into the fourth quarter, before the Golden Flashes caught fire and pulled away for a 36-15 win.

It’s always good to get a win, but Kent State has been underwhelming this year.

Next: at No. 6 Ohio State (September 19 at 12:00 PM)

12. Central Michigan Chippewas (1-1, 0-0)

Central Michigan picked up its first win of the season, but it wasn’t pretty. The Chippewas trailed 10-0 at halftime and were in jeopardy of falling to 0-2, before outscoring Colgate 13-0 in the second half to squeak by with an uninspiring win.

Next: Wyoming (September 19 at 1:00 PM)

13. Bowling Green Falcons (0-2, 0-0)

Bowling Green continues to look like the worst team in the MAC at this point in the season. It’s not a surprise the Falcons were blown out 56-7 at Nebraska, but a head-scratching season-opening loss to Tarleton State is still too much to overcome.

Next: at Iowa State (September 19 at 12:00 PM)
