DeBrincat scored late and Raymond scored in the shootout to give the Red Wings an important win

The Detroit Red Wings showed determination and a never-quit attitude Saturday night, battling back from a two-goal deficit to defeat the San Jose Sharks 4-3 in a shootout.

Lucas Raymond delivered the decisive shootout goal, while Alex DeBrincat tied the game late in the third period to complete an impressive comeback.

The Red Wings earned another important two points as they had seven of their first eight games at home and now go on a west coast road trip.

Detroit opened the scoring at 12:47 of the first period when defenseman Justin Faulk found the back of the net on the power play. Emmitt Finnie and Michael Rasmussen collected assists, giving the Red Wings an early advantage.

However, San Jose responded before the first intermission.

Veteran defenseman Dmitry Orlov scored a power-play goal at 17:59, tying the game 1-1 and giving the Sharks energy.

San Jose used that momentum early in the second period when Macklin Celebrini scored at 4:55, putting the Sharks ahead 2-1.

Red Wing goaltender John Gibson made several important saves keeping the game within reach.

Early in the third period, Ivar Stenberg extended San Jose's advantage to 3-1 with another power-play goal.

With Detroit trailing by two goals and time becoming a factor, the Red Wings needed an offensive spark.

That spark came from Emmitt Finnie.

At 5:00 of the third period, Finnie scored to cut San Jose's lead to 3-2. Michael Brandsegg-Nygard and Moritz Seider assisted on the goal.

The goal ignited the Red Wings, who looked to tie the game.

With just 1:33 remaining in regulation, Alex DeBrincat delivered.

DeBrincat scored at 18:27, assisted by Viktor Arvidsson and Seider, tying the game 3-3 and sending the Little Caesars Arena crowd into a frenzy.

Neither team scored in overtime and the game headed to a shootout.

Lucas Raymond stepped up and scored the only goal of the shootout, completing Detroit's comeback and securing the 4-3 victory.
