The Toledo quarterback received MAC honors following a career-high, record-setting performance against Temple
Toledo Rockets quarterback John Alan Richter was named the MAC Offensive Player of the Week in the aftermath of a career-best, record-setting performance in an improbable 49-48 comeback win over the Temple Owls on Saturday!
The Toledo quarterback shattered his previous career-highs by throwing for 429 passing yards and four touchdowns, while completing 36-of-51 passing attempts. It’s the first time Richter earned MAC Player of the Week in his career.
In addition to being the best game of his career, Richter’s record-setting performance was just the fourth time in school history that a quarterback finished with 425+ passing yards and four passing touchdowns, joining Logan Woodside.
Despite trailing by double digits with just over a minute remaining in regulation against Temple last week, Richter led back-to-back scoring drives in the blink of an eye, highlighted by a 23-yard game-tying touchdown to force overtime.
Richter has been with the Rockets for four years but he’s finally getting an opportunity to be the starting quarterback this year and he’s wasted no time etching his name into the record books with an unforgettable game against Temple.
Additionally, Richter received the Davey O'Brien Performance of the Week and the Manning Award Star of the Week.
There’s no doubt that Richter’s performance will be remembered by Rockets fans for years to come, but he isn’t done yet.
With a critical matchup against San Diego State set for this week, Richter is hoping to follow up his historic outing with another great performance, fueling the Rockets to a third straight win and heading into conference play with a 3-1 record.
Richter earned a lot of attention from around the conference and nation for his explosive performance last week and if he continues to play at such a high level throughout the season, Toledo will be a force to be reckoned with in the MAC.
