The Toledo wide receiver took home MAC honors following a career-high performance against San Diego State

Toledo Rockets wide receiver Bryson Hammer was named the MAC Offensive Player of the Week after erupting for a career-best 133 receiving yards, two touchdowns, and six catches in a 41-16 win over the San Diego State Aztecs on Saturday.

The Toledo wide receiver has steadily improved in recent years and has become a key part of the offense this season, which was on full display as Hammer exploded for the best performance of his career in a blowout win over San Diego State.

Hammer set career-highs across the board by recording 133 receiving yards and two touchdowns on six receptions, highlighted by sprinting past the defense for a 78-yard touchdown reception to put the Rockets up 17-3 heading into halftime.

On the very first play of the second half, Hammer grabbed a 38-yard touchdown catch to take a commanding 24-3 lead.

Toledo eventually coasted to a 41-16 win, and Hammer’s performance was a critical part of why the Rockets totally dominated.

The Ohio native started his career at Toledo as a walk-on and was primarily a punt return specialist prior to this year.

Hammer had just three receptions coming into this season, but now he’s emerged as a consistent playmaker for the Rockets.

In four games this year, Hammer has recorded 15 receptions for a team-high 286 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

The 5-foot-11, 180-pound wide receiver currently ranks fourth in the MAC and 51st in the country in receiving yards in 2026.

Additionally, Hammer is the second consecutive Toledo player to be named the MAC Offensive Player of the Week.

Toledo quarterback John Alan Richter took home the honor following his record-setting performance against Temple last week.

Hammer will attempt to continue to make a significant impact as the Rockets prepare to start MAC play on Saturday.

Toledo travels to Ball State for the MAC opener on Saturday at 2:00 PM, with an opportunity to secure a fourth straight win.
