India’s go-to wicketkeeper batsman has once again turned heads with his ability to perform.
KL Rahul has a rather intriguing ability to become the anchor for the Indian team in the most dire situations. The wicketkeeper-batsman is known for his amazing knocks whenever India needs him to rise up to the occasion. Whether it be the 2019 World Cup or the strong knock of 97 runs against Australia during the 2023 World Cup while India was three wickets down for 2 runs, Rahul has been the savior for the Indian team many times over the course of his international career.
Once again, the audience witnessed a perfectly fine example of his batting under pressure against West Indies during the third ODI. Right when India lost Rohit Sharma’s crucial wicket, Rahul showed up to the rescue. When the stars from the first two ODIs, Gill and Kohli, got out early on, Rahul helped Rohit build a mighty 137-run partnership.
Ian Bishop can’t stop praising Rahul as the finest of ODI
The final match of the series against the West Indies was turning out rather tricky for India. After all, their head coach claimed that if they bowled first, they would be able to trap India despite the flat pitches. After India lost Rohit’s wicket, it was Rahul who stood firm until the very end and ensured that India reached a total of 350 as the wickets kept falling down steadily. Rahul maintained an amazing strike rate of 148 while staying not out during the innings.
Seeing his performance, Ian Bishop remarked from the commentary box, “KL Rahul has to be one of the most underrated batters in the ODIs. I mean, you look at his overall game, and he looks in total command irrespective of the situation. Batting at No. 5 & 6 is not everyone's cup of tea, and to maintain that consistency day in, day out, to maintain that run-scoring ability, to maintain that average is simply phenomenal.
“I seriously can bet my life when he is batting. He has that class, which very few batters in the world possess. There is everything to like about this lad.”
Without Sharma, the Indian batsmen would’ve failed to keep the ship afloat. So a knock like Rahul’s becomes the golden opportunity for the team’s batting lineup. Except Rahul and Rohit, only Ruturaj Gaikwad managed to give the team an important boost in their final run tally. But almost halfway through the match, even Gaikwad’s luck ran out.
