Only Sevilla Match Barcelona’s Spread of Goals in LaLiga

Share

Sevilla currently matches Barcelona in terms of the number of different players to have scored for their respective teams this season. Both sides highlight the attacking depth found across LaLiga.

The ninth Matchday of the Spanish Champioship has been completed. Barcelona remains top with a perfect record, while other teams, including Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid, are fighting to keep pace with Hansi Flick’s side. When it comes to spreading goals across a squad, the only team currently matching the German manager’s players is Sevilla. Each club’s figures, however, have a different explanation.

The story began on Saturday after Rodri scored in Seville against Betis. His goal made him Barcelona’s 11th different goalscorer in LaLiga this season. It is an impressive statistic that reflects the attacking strength of a squad that has certainly not been short of firepower despite the recent absence of players such as Raphinha. Sevilla is the only team keeping pace with them.

Raphinha, Lamine Yamal, Fermín López, Gabriel Jesus, Karim Adeyemi, Rodrigo Hernández, Eric García, Dani Olmo, Anthony Gordon, Jules Koundé and Xavi Espart are the Barcelona players who have scored during the first nine rounds of the Spanish Champioship season. Neither Real Madrid nor Atlético Madrid have spread their goals across as many different players so far.

Sevilla is the only other club with 11 different goalscorers, although the reasons behind their achievement are quite different from Barcelona’s. The Andalusian capital’s team are going through a difficult financial period that has forced them to withdraw from major transfer deals and focus more heavily than ever on their academy. They have also had to pursue smaller-scale signings rather than the big names of previous years. To remain competitive in Spain’s topflight, every player needs to contribute. So far, Luis García’s men are doing exactly that.

Isaac Romero, Miguel Sierra, Jon Guridi, Peque Fernández, Oso, Chidera Ejuke, Lucas Stassin, Juan Iglesias, Fofana, Robbie Ure and Félix are the players who have scored for Sevilla in LaLiga so far. It is worth remembering that the Andalusian side has collected 14 points out of 27 so far. That is a remarkable achievement given the cost of their squad and the enormous financial gap between them and Barcelona. No other club has more different goalscorers than these two teams after the first nine rounds of LaLiga.
