Getafe are currently one of the biggest surprises in Spanish football.
The Azulones have already signed Dani Carvajal and are exploring various deals to give José Bordalás the strongest possible squad. Sergio Ramos has now become the latest major name linked with the Coliseum, with the club’s president himself confirming the possibility of a move. The former Real Madrid defender has not played an official match since 2025.
Dani Carvajal’s arrival at Getafe does not appear to be the last major move planned by José Bordalás’ team. In recent weeks, there has been speculation about the possibility of signing iconic names such as Dani Parejo, as well as players whose careers have stalled, such as Jadon Sancho. Now, there is even a possibility of bringing in Sergio Ramos for a project that needs all the help it can get during a season in which the club could compete in as many as three competitions.
The news was confirmed by Getafe president Ángel Torres himself. Torres revealed that the Madrid-based club had already been in contact with Sergio Ramos’ brother in an attempt to reach an agreement that would bring the former Real Madrid defender to the Coliseum. However, the club’s wage bill and LaLiga’s registration rules will be key factors in determining whether a deal can be completed.
“Yes… His agent, his brother, has been talking to me. We have six centre-backs, so it wasn’t a position the manager needed to strengthen at the moment. He wanted wide players, but it’s not too late yet… He’s on the list of potential signings,” the Getafe president said about a move that would have seemed completely unexpected just a few hours earlier.
Getafe confirmed that Sergio Ramos has been in discussions with the club for some time. Even if financial constraints prevent the club from signing him immediately, neither side has ruled out resuming talks ahead of the January transfer window. Ángel Torres has confirmed discussions with the legendary former Real Madrid defender as the club looks to strengthen its squad for what could be a historic season.
“He could come because this is something we’ve been working on for a while, but it wasn’t our priority. If not now, perhaps in January, if we were to bring in a centre-back, although we already have that position well covered,” Ángel Torres said, confirming that he has been speaking with Sergio Ramos’ representatives for some time. The defender’s lack of recent playing time is not considered a major concern.
It is worth remembering that Sergio Ramos has not played an official match since December 7, 2025. At the time, he was representing Mexican club Monterrey in his second season in the country. This followed a brief spell at Sevilla and two seasons at Paris Saint-Germain after he left Real Madrid in the summer of 2021. The player has consistently ruled out retiring without one last major adventure in which he can compete at the highest level. Getafe hopes to conclude negotiations with his representatives sooner rather than later.
