Royals shortstop becomes the first player to earn the overall distinction three consecutive times.
Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. has secured his third consecutive Overall Heart & Hustle Award, earning the 2026 honor from the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association (MLBPAA) on Friday, November 6. The achievement makes him the first player to receive the recognition three times since the distinction was established in 2005.
The honor recognizes an active Major League player who demonstrates a strong passion for baseball and best represents the values, spirit, and traditions of the game. The MLBPAA forms 30 committees of former players to select one team nominee from each organization. Fans, along with current and former MLBPAA player members, then participate in the voting process to determine the overall recipient.
Witt has represented Kansas City as its team nominee in each of his first five Major League seasons. He is also a four-time recipient of the Royals' team-level Heart & Hustle recognition, further highlighting his standing within the organization. His three consecutive overall victories put him ahead of Hall of Famer Craig Biggio, who earned the distinction in 2006 and 2007.
Witt has also become the first player in Major League history to record at least 10 home runs and 25 stolen bases in each of his first five seasons. Defensively, he recorded 24 Outs Above Average, leading the American League and ranking third across MLB, according to Statcast.
Witt has established himself as the most decorated recipient of the distinction and continuing to represent Kansas City as one of baseball's leading all-around players.
