She also played soccer and tennis before deciding to concentrate on basketball around ages 12 and 13. Her development continued through Baden-Württemberg's regional basketball system, eventually creating opportunities to represent Germany in international competitions.
Her international career featured appearances for Germany across multiple age groups, competing in FIBA tournaments from the U16 European Challengers in 2021 through the U20 Women's EuroBasket in 2025.
Inspired by German basketball players Satou Sabally and Nyara Sabally, Diala pursued the opportunity to play college basketball in the United States.
Miriam joined George Washington University for the 2024-25 season, appearing in 24 games with four starts. She averaged 3.0 points and 3.0 rebounds per game while shooting 59.3 percent from the field.
Her international experience has exposed her to different playing styles and levels of competition. Adjusting to the physicality, officiating and pace of American college basketball has been an important part of her development.
At the 2025 FIBA U20 Women's EuroBasket, she averaged 7.4 points and 6.9 rebounds per game.
The 2025-26 campaign saw Diala become a consistent starter for Toledo. She played in every game, averaging 21.2 minutes, 6.9 points and 4.8 rebounds. Her 52.4 percent shooting efficiency accompanied season totals of 206 points, 144 rebounds, 34 assists, 22 steals and six blocks, including 56 offensive rebounds.
She led the Rockets with 56 offensive rebounds and ranked second on the team in total rebounds and field-goal percentage.
Diala recorded a career-high 11 rebounds against Ball State on January 7, 2026. She also contributed 10 points and eight rebounds in Toledo's MAC Tournament quarterfinal victory over UMass on March 11.
Beyond basketball, Diala has an interest in public health and medical research. She completed a four-month internship at a cancer research center in Germany, which strengthened her interest in cancer research and epidemiology.
Miriam Diala has built her basketball career through international competition, collegiate development and academic ambition. From representing Germany to becoming a regular starter for Toledo, she continues to develop as a frontcourt contributor while pursuing her interests beyond the game.
