The Tottenham right-back had been linked with potential moves to Real Madrid and Barcelona for months.
After being crowned as a FIFA World Cup champion, Pedro Porro has revealed the truth behind the interest shown by Spain's biggest clubs in bringing him back to LaLiga. He insists that, at least so far, nobody has formally contacted his representatives about a move away from Spurs.
Pedro Porro and Tottenham are looking to establish themselves more firmly in the Premier League. Following a disappointing start to the season, the right-back is beginning to see the first results of Italian manager Roberto De Zerbi's work. In an interview with Cadena SER, he denied having received any formal offers from Barcelona or Real Madrid so far.
Throughout the summer, rumors surrounding a possible move from Tottenham to Camp Nou or the Santiago Bernabéu were commonplace. He was considered one of the biggest names potentially available from the Premier League after being crowned FIFA World Cup champion. Pedro Porro admits, however, that he has yet to receive a formal proposal from either of LaLiga's two biggest clubs.
“I sorted out my contract renewal before the World Cup so I could have some peace of mind. There is interest because people ask about your situation. But real interest? No. I didn't even want to listen. Would Tottenham demand a lot of money? Most likely, because they value me as one of their best players. At the end of the day, it's like everything in life: the best things cost more,” the Spurs right-back explained in an interview with Cadena SER. He is happy to have renewed his contract with the north London club.
Cadena SER also asked Pedro Porro whether he would have any problem joining Barcelona or Real Madrid in the future. Although he left the door open to a possible return to Spain, he was by no means willing to discuss a potential transfer in the middle of the season, especially with Tottenham trying to rediscover the form they enjoyed in previous years. The summer of 2027 could be a completely different story.
“It would be very unfair to talk about anything other than my club because, at the end of the day, I have a contract. The respect they have shown me is mutual. I've always said I would love to return to Spain because it's my country and it would mean a lot to me. Which team would suit my style of play better? I consider myself a player who can adapt to anything. I've adapted to the Premier League, which is not easy at all. I can adapt to anything, so I'll leave it at that,” Pedro Porro added when discussing the rumors linking him with both Barcelona and Real Madrid over recent months.
We are talking about a player who would be a perfect fit for either project. Real Madrid have been forced to deploy Federico Valverde at right-back amid Denzel Dumfries' poor performances and José Mourinho's lack of confidence in Trent Alexander-Arnold. As for Barcelona, Pedro Porro's profile is particularly appealing to a manager like Hansi Flick, who expects his full-backs to push forward throughout the entire 90 minutes. For now, however, the player insists that his full attention remains focused on north London.
