Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's injury has caused concern across Europe. Paris Saint-Germain is almost certain to look for a replacement in the January transfer window and several names have emerged as potential options for Luis Enrique's squad. Real Betis can breathe a sigh of relief following the French club's decision not to pursue a move for Abde at this stage.
Real Betis had been growing increasingly concerned about Abde's future over recent weeks. The Moroccan international had been the subject of several rumours linking him with Paris Saint-Germain following the serious ACL injury suffered by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. For now, however, the reigning two-time UEFA Champions League winners are not expected to pursue a move for the former Barcelona player in the January transfer window.
It is worth remembering that Khvicha Kvaratskhelia suffered a torn ACL during the 4-2 victory over Barcelona. On that occasion, the reigning UEFA Champions League Player of the Season had to be substituted in the second half following a collision that resulted in the worst possible medical diagnosis. He is an absolutely crucial player for Luis Enrique and an important piece that PSG will need to replace in the transfer market if they are to compete for a third consecutive European crown.
That is where Abde's name emerged as a genuine possibility. He is considerably cheaper than most of Europe's top wingers and is familiar with Luis Enrique's footballing philosophy. However, Italian journalist Matteo Moretto ruled out the possibility of the Moroccan international leaving La Cartuja for the Parc des Princes in January during an appearance on DAZN.
“It is true that Abde shares an agent with Hakimi and is very good friends with him. Abde had the opportunity to leave Betis in the summer, but he has a contract until 2029 and is extremely happy at Betis. I'm being told that, for now, the PSG move is not a very likely possibility,” the journalist reported when discussing the Moroccan winger's future.
Abde is coming off one of the best seasons of his career in terms of individual statistics. His 15 goals and 13 assists last season made him one of the most consistent wingers in the entire Spanish league. He may not be Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, but he would have been an excellent fit for the footballing philosophy Luis Enrique has been implementing at the Parc des Princes for several years.
In Seville, there is a sense of relief following the French club's decision not to replace its star player with Abde. The problem now shifts to the rest of Europe's major clubs, particularly considering the financial resources Paris Saint-Germain has to complete a major transfer at the beginning of 2027. France's leading media outlets are convinced that Luis Enrique's side will strengthen their squad midway through the season and will look for an elite replacement following Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's serious injury.
