Kasey Kahne might be returning to NASCAR after health scares drove him away.
The last time Kasey Kahne competed full-time in NASCAR was during the 2018 season in the Cup Series. He ended up retiring from the sport prematurely in 2018. After heat exhaustion caused him to sit out for the next couple of races, Kahne decided to exit the sport due to medical reasons. He would continue to participate in sprint racing for one year. But even on the dirt track, he suffered a massive crash, which took him out for a year.
Kahne continued racing and sporting his own team in the sprint racing categories, World of Outlaws and High Limits Racing, but he never made an indication about returning to NASCAR again. That was, until 2025, when Kahne came back to the NASCAR O’Reilly Series to make a one-off appearance with Richard Childress Racing. Fast forward to 2026, there are rumors that Kasey Kahne is going to compete in the Truck Series with Spire Motorsports.
Spire needs a proven winner, and Kahne has the record
Spire Motorsports has been making ambitious moves in the NASCAR Truck Series for a long time now. They ended up purchasing Kyle Busch’s Truck team, Kyle Busch Motorsports, for a lucrative sum and signed up high-profile drivers to gain more attention. They also purchased a charter in 2023 for a whopping $40 million.
According to Jordan Bianchi, Kasey Kahne will join hands with Spire Motorsports for the 2027 season for his true NASCAR comeback. The motivation from Spire is simple. They want someone who can win races for them and take them forward with immense knowledge. Kahne is the exact kind of driver they would want to hire for this role.
Meanwhile, for Kasey Kahne, it is poetic justice. The NASCAR career that didn’t achieve the greatness it was bound for has found another chance to come alive. Kahne would be eager to show the entire grid what he can do and what he is capable of in the right machinery. It should be noted that the 2025 appearance he had with Richard Childress Racing in the NOAPS was marked with a P14 finish, which is considerably impressive for someone who has been away from the series for nearly eight years.
With three Coca-Cola 600 and one Brickyard 400 wins to his name, Kasey Kahne is the shining hope for Spire Motorsports Truck program. The fans are eagerly awaiting the announcement about his future plans and contract.
